As much as I dislike Flash, I have to be upset about this. First of all, current web standards aren't even remotely as good as what Flash could do, which is only made worse by the fact there's no packaging standard for the web. We can all pretty much kiss online cartoons goodbye. Most web sites can't handle streaming video, and the days of fun, interactive cartoons are definitely over.
More to the point, I hate how the whole world had such a raging hate boner for Flash, with geeks practically screaming for it to be killed and banned immediately. That was all politics. All the hoopla over bad performance, draining batteries, and security was total nonsense, as HTML-based web sites have all the same problems -- if not more. The real reason the browser developers want it to die is because they can't control it. That's why you can't be allowed to use it even as an option (or any other plug-in for that matter). All browser plug-ins will be completely banned soon, and they're busy crippling extensions, too, so ad blockers don't work properly, anymore. It's all just business and politics.
Java got the same treatment a while ago, with the same excuse that it is "insecure". What baloney. I was really pissed off about that. Oekaki pretty much died after that happened.

This one line says it all. The web isn't supposed to be free of any technology. It's supposed to be about freedom of choice. If anyone is celebrating over a legacy technology being wiped out, then you know it's all just business.
